TipsOkay makes it easy for audiences to support independent artists and creators directly. Here are some of the questions we’re asked most often.
1. Can I use my QR code more than once?
Yes. Your TipsOkay QR code is permanent and reusable. You can use it again and again at different gigs, events and performances.
2. Does TipsOkay take anything on top of the 10%?
No. For standard TipsOkay tips, the artist receives 90% and TipsOkay retains 10%. Normal payment-processing costs are covered from the TipsOkay portion, not deducted from the artist’s 90%.
3. How much do I actually receive from a tip?
If someone tips $10, your share is $9. If someone tips $20, your share is $18.
4. How and when do I get paid?
Artist balances are paid out directly. E-transfer is one of the simplest ways we currently handle payouts where appropriate. Tips are normally paid out within 5-7 business days, once the payment has cleared and the funds have been received by TipsOkay.
5. Do I need my own website to use TipsOkay?
No. Your TipsOkay page gives you a simple place to send people even if you don’t have a website of your own.
6. What can I put on my TipsOkay page?
Your page can include your name, image or promotional artwork and enough information for people to know who they’re supporting. Where appropriate, it can also link to your website, social media, Airstreaming interview, event or other relevant information.
7. Can I use TipsOkay at live performances?
Absolutely. That’s one of the main reasons the QR system is useful. Put the code somewhere visible and people can support you without needing cash or interrupting the performance.
8. Can I share my TipsOkay link online too?
Yes. The same page can be shared by text, email, social media or through your own website. The QR code and web link both lead people to the same place.
9. Do people need a TipsOkay account to leave a tip?
No. The idea is to keep tipping as straightforward as possible. Supporters can simply follow your link or scan your QR code and complete the payment using the available payment options.
10. Is TipsOkay only for musicians?
No. TipsOkay is intended for independent artists, creators, performers and others whose work people may want to support.
11. What’s the best way to use my TipsOkay QR code?
Use it wherever your audience can find you. Your QR code is permanent, so you don’t have to wait until you’re actually performing to share it.
Post it on your social media before a show, use it while promoting an upcoming performance, display it at the venue, and share it again afterwards. You can also print it on cards, posters, programmes, table signs or other promotional material.
Between performances, keep sharing it online whenever you have something new to talk about, such as a new song, project, appearance or event.
The important thing is to make it easy for people who appreciate what you do to support you when they’re thinking about you.
