Joani is the creator and founder behind Character Driven Media, TipsOkay and GigTickets, building on a lifetime of work in broadcasting, storytelling, live events and independent media.

Her work has always centred on people: helping individuals tell their stories, share their talents and connect with audiences. From television, radio and journalism to live production, music, community events and online broadcasting, Joani has continued to explore new ways of putting the tools of media into the hands of the people who have something to contribute.

Character Driven Media brings much of that work together, creating opportunities for live broadcasting, streaming, interviews, performances and community-based media.

TipsOkay gives audiences a simple way to directly support creators, performers, broadcasters and others whose work they value.

GigTickets helps connect audiences with live events while supporting the independent people and communities that make those events possible.

Underlying all three is a simple idea: people shouldn’t have to be part of a large media company or organization to create something worthwhile, reach an audience or be supported for their work.

Joani continues to create, experiment, produce and develop new ways for people to participate in media rather than simply consume it.

This is one of Joani’s favourite interviews over a career that has spanned many decades. Tom Wilson of Junkhouse, Lee Harvey Osmond, The Cowboy Junkies spent the hour reminiscing about his early days as a musician, stories from the road, his voiceover work and one his most famous creations, the theme song for the TV show “Party of Five”. Tom was doing a tour of small venues on Vancouver Island and was off to the Duncan Garage Showroom to do a gig right after the interview on CharacterDriven, the show Joani hosted for 10 years at CHLY 101.7 FM in Nanaimo.
